Histologically, eosinophilic cellulitis is formed, in association with epidermal vesiculation and exudation. A yellow-colored birefringent material (stick needle) is seen in the dermis (HE, low power).   High-powered view discloses the yellow-colored stick needle of a honey bee Apis mellifera embedded in the dermis. Eosinophilic infiltration is pronounced (HE).
