Alveolar pneumocytes are infected by Toxoplasma gondii, presenting tachyzoite-filled terminal colonies (HE).   Interstitial fibrosis is multifocally provoked by Toxoplasma infection (HE). Fibrinous exudation is associated.
     
   
     
Toxoplasma gondii antigens are demonstrated in a good number of stromal cells in the fibrotic lesion (immunostaining using a polyclonal antibody).
