Sporangia of varying sizes are formed just beneath the squamous metaplastic epithelium. Mature sporangia contain numerous spores (HE). Inflammatory change is mild.   A large mature sporangium produces numerous spores, while a smaller immature sporangium contains amorphous basophilic cytoplasm (HE, high power).
     
   
     
The mature sporangium is Grocott-positive, while the immature sporangium is unreactive. Rhinosporidium seeberi is unculturable.
