Case 38. Woolen yarn in the stomach (75 y-o M)
         
    A long and soft material incidentally found in the gastric lumen during endoscopic examination for hematemesis

The 10 cm-long, lightly tan-colored material is soft and flabby.   Stereo microscopic observation showing bundles of filaments excludes the possibility of the living body.
     
 
     
The material is histologically composed of wrinkled fibers (HE).   The fibers are elastic in nature (elastic van Gieson).
